Down on the River

Here's another shot from Brazos Bend State Park, which has kind of turned into my muse in Houston.  I recently discovered that, in addition to the alligators, turtles, armadillos, a various cool birds, they also have river otters!  I never would guessed that Texas would have otters anywhere.  My kids are going to be pretty psyched about that.

I went all-in (overboard?) on giving this one a painterly look.  It was an experiment.  Usually I go for the hyperreal, ultra-detailed look, and this one has detail removed and simplified.  I think it would look great on canvas.
